DLSU Student Interview

First of all, HAPPY 100 YEARS LA SALLE!

WooHoo!!

I've been a Lasallian for 15 years. I am proud to be one.
It's quite appropriate now to interview a Lasallian student regarding RH Bill.

The first person I interviewed for this blog was Ms. Maria Flores. She is a single mom who is raising three kids. She is a manager in an insurance company. She was part of batch 2000 of DLSU-Manila.
The following statements are Ms. Flores’ thoughts on the RH Bill:
In all honesty, I find the discussion of the RH Bill a waste of time for our government. Instead of focusing on looking for ways to build more schools and creating new programs that can benefit underprivileged children, everyone seems to be making the RH Bill the center of all discussions. The Philippines has numerous problems that the passing of this bill cannot solve. So I would like to encourage everyone to look at the bigger problems of our country and stop all this debate about the RH Bill.
Getting that out of the way, after reading the summary of the proposed RH bill, I can strongly say that I am against it. Not only because I am a devout Catholic and parts of the bill go against my beliefs; but also because I find numerous parts of the bill to be redundant.
First, the promotion of breast feeding—hospitals around the country are already doing this. They are educating mothers about the benefits of breastfeeding to their babies and are encouraging them to do this until they can. They tell mothers to use the bottle once the mother no longer has milk to give. The second thing I find redundant is counseling of reproductive health—this is already done during the application of a marriage license. Furthermore, if a teenager is curious about this subject, parents should be the first one to discuss this, however awkward it may be. Furthermore, schools also provide guidance counselors that kids can go to and talk about what they want to know. The third thing I found to be redundant was that they also included parts of Republic Act 9262 in this RH Bill which was the elimination of violence against women and children.
Besides all of the negativity or her negative aura towards RH Bill, we ended the conversation happy because of the celebration. This is her opinion regarding RH Bill, for it to be a waste of time instead of focusing on other important things such as education, let's say.
